Folks - who knows what makes a songwriter “tic” - especially one who writes in many styles. Probably an inclination you are born with - certainly isn’t anything you go to school for, or need a degree in. If that’s the case Ric is out of luck. Fortunately, history is on his side since many songwriters have degrees, but usually not in music! I suspect one writes songs because of a happy disposition. Or, if predisposed to being sad - as a means to claim some measure of happiness - who really knows. To me, songwriters, like the better ‘‘serious’’composers, are eclectic in their approach - able to capture a variety of moods in any given style. That’s pretty much Ric Dominguez, especially since he seems to be equally ‘’at home’‘ in English or Spanish - offering everything from Broadway to boleros, but personally prefering boleros, which he considers an ‘‘endangered” Latin style, since they are rarely played on contemporary Latin music radio programs today.
