Boleros, Boleros,& More Boleros!

The Music Of Ric Dominguez, Composer

New Boleros, Baladas, and American Pop

‘’Songs that caress the soul, lift the spirit, and make you want to dance.’’

Dear Folks,

As you can see from the photos below, I come from a large,  family of ten - me being the only one musically artistic. Like any songwriter,  I wish I could say I was born and raised in a musically encouraging environment like, let’s say, Cole Porter whose wealthy family circumstances, musical sophistication, and professional connections helped in the flowering of his natural genius. What songwriter wouldn’t like to be gifted and privileged like the great Cole Porter, barring the tragedy in his life. His mom, early on, was very musically supportive and encouraging; mine could only sing to me - like moms usually do, but maybe planting a musical seed. She was a noble woman, with a noble heart. Praise God, I had great parents sacrificing all they could - but  just for the basics.

But sometimes God clears a path for us lesser mortals as we struggle along, and opens doors that we least had hopes of entering. Like the open door of a burned out house where we as ‘’under-privileged’’ neighborhood kids (read “poor’’), used to play, and where I first encountered a piano - an old, out of tune up-right. Or like the door opened by the owner of the burned house, who scared me while I was investigating what a piano was, but then asked if I wouldn’t like to have the piano. Or like the door opened by my 3rd grade  teacher who over-heard me practice during recess on a “good “ piano, and offered to pay for lessons.(I must have sounded pretty bad!). And then there’s the door opened by Miss Emily VerWeir, my patient saint of a private piano teacher back then.

The only door that hasn’t opened, at least not much, is radio broadcasting. According to many sources, some big corporations have been allowed virtually to own the public airwaves, or at least dominate them. These are big corporate entities interested in money alone - apparently not concerned with merit or decency.  But who would have dreamed that some day another tremendous door would open, a door to the world - the internet. And now independent artists like myself can by-pass those corporate media gate-keepers. Now we, the people, are able to listen on the internet, and  chose music that speaks to us and enriches our lives without being subjected to meaningless corporate hype and irresposible, self-serving control of what is allowed to be heard.

We hope you’ll return to this site frequently to hear new music - especially new boleros. In the meantime, please check out the music on our new CD. And, Folks, please don’t be bothered by the humble nature of my background. In the family origins of most songwriters, past and present, wealth is an exception, poverty - the rule.

I am thankful, and celebrate the fact that the technical circumstances of today makes it possible for independent writers like myself are able to share our music with you. We sincerely appreciate your interest and support.                   Ricardo
